Green smoothies are where it's at. With the right recipe, they are an excellent way to sneak more leafy greens into your daily routine! This smoothie is a refreshing hit of anti-oxidants thanks to the generous helping of spinach, cilantro, and chia seeds. The coconut water is a great source of electrolytes and potassium, so grab this as your go to recipe when your body is in need of a hydration reboot.

1 cup pineapple

1/2 avocado

1/2 cup spinach

handful of cilantro

1 tbs chia seeds

1 tbs coconut oil*

1 cup coconut water

Directions

Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Enjoy!

Notes

*Why coconut oil? Coconut oil has been getting a bad rep in the media lately, some reports claiming that it is not a healthy choice. This is likely do to the fact that coconut oil is a saturated fat. Contrary to common belief, saturated fats are not bad for you when eaten in moderation! It's just that in our society, we eat a diet that is rich in too many saturated fats, mainly from fried food and animal products. If you are someone who already eats a lot fatty foods heavy in these fats (solid at room temperature, think bacon grease), it is up to you to decide if this is a healthy addition to your smoothie. Listen to your body and remember everyone is different. I add coconut oil to my smoothies as an extra fat source. These fats help stabilize my blood sugar throughout the day so I can stay focused and perform at my best. Plus I think the coconut gives the smoothie a delicious taste.
